GDAMS 2019 Final Report

This report presents a summary of 2019 Global Days of Action on Military Spending, including an overview, highlights, materials and a compilation of all actions carried out, accompanied by a selection of pictures.

During 26 days, from April 13 to May 9, over 110 GDAMS events took place in 27 countries all around the world: USA, Canada, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Norway, Finland, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Cameroon, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, India, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.

74 years have passed since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These indiscriminate and terrorizing bombings were designed to extend U.S. power in Asia, and to introduce nuclear blackmail as a new political tool at the dawn of the Cold War. The United States, Russia, Britain, France and China spent approximately $10 trillion dollars to develop national nuclear programs. This is comparable to the annual budget of all the rest of the world’s militaries for decades.

European Defence Fund

This working paper analyses the European Defence Fund, a financing tool which will lead to a significant increase in military spending of EU member states and that will boost the military and security industries, by allocating public funds which should instead be directed to human and environmental needs.

The International Peace Bureau calls for worldwide protests against the planned war.

Governments worldwide, particularly the EU and the UN, must explicitly and unambiguously call on the US to end the collision course with Iran. They must clarify that they will not support any military action by Trump against Iran.

GDAMS Final Statement 2019

On the occasion of the Global Days of Action on Military Spending

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) published its new report on global military spending on Monday the 29th of April 2019 and once again we feel obliged to state our concern and outrage and call on every individual and group to take action and publicly denounce this nonsense. The world’s military expenditure for 2018 was $ 1822 billion, 83 billion more than in 2017, passing from a 1.1% to a 2.6% increase in real terms. Militarization is therefore accelerating at an alarming rate at a time when it should be drastically reduced in order to tackle the grave challenges humanity is facing.
